Giovanni Battista Piranesi [dʒoˈvanni batˈtista piraˈneːzi] (Mogliano Veneto, perto de Treviso, República de Veneza), em 4 de Outubro de 1720 — e morreu em Roma, Novembro de 1778 foi um famoso gravurista e arquitecto italiano, porém também célebre pela sua vertente mais humanística. Giovanni Battista Piranesi nacque il 4 ottobre 1720 da Angelo e da Laura Lucchesi, e fu battezzato l'8 ottobre nella parrocchia di San Moisè a Venezia. Non è supportata da documenti la tradizione che nacque a Mogliano Veneto : i genitori abitavano in Corte Barozzi a Venezia.
